Since the band's lyrics are family friendly and since Tyler was bringing his 3-year old daughter, Cricket, to see her uncle, I decided to bring Lexi. So her first rock concert is behind her and she hasn't even reached kindergarten.
So we got to the show a little late, but one of the opening bands was still playing. As we arrived, we saw Tyler's brother and he got us in the back door of the theatre. From there we headed to the green room where we just chatted with the band. I was trying hard not to act like a dorky superfan, but I secretly am.
All the band members were very friendly and fine with having a couple of preschoolers in the green room. Aquabats shows involve many costumes and the band let Lexi and Cricket try some on. Lexi was pretty excited when she found out that the band was going to be on her new favorite show, Yo Gabba Gabba, next week. Tyler's brother is the creator of the show.
For the show, we were able to sit in a balcony above the stage where a band guy was running the video.
The concert was amazing. I had never seen these guys live and you didn't even need to like the music to enjoy the show. Lexi and Cricket were dancing and watching the kids dancing below.
At one point the band fought a "monster" on stage and it took me a minute to realize that Tyler was doing the voice of the monster from right next to me.
Lexi even got involved when the kids started waving their cell phones in a mock lighter display.
After the show we went back to the green room and shared some waters with the band before carting two tired girls back to Princeton.

Dude! I'm super stoked you could come. It was even better that it was a double-daddy-daughter-date! :) I'm glad you had such fun, and don't feel bad about being a superfan. Trust me, even if you tried, you couldn't match some of the um... creepy fans we've met in the past.
Hope you're feeling better. We gotta get you guys over some time this week so we can compare mission pics!
the aquabats are super rad! i went to their show back in the day at salt lake's very own 'classic skating' and anti-skaed my little bum off. when henry was a wee babe and wouldn't sleep we would turn on 'fury' really loud and dance him to sleep. next time, remember there's another dorky fan around and ask me to tag along!
YES!!!!! I love that Lexi's first concert was a) the Aquabats and b) chock full of costumes.
That looks like it was a awesome. What a good dad you are...
A dad and daughter that concert together....stay together!
Amy!
I was totally at that show! it was insane... there was something like 10,000 people there! I flew up to UT for it. Crazy times....
I'll make sure to let everyone know next time they're in town!
I feel like you are all talking some strange aqua freak language!! i suppose I need to borrow a CD before I am too judgemental...
